The Accusharpe knife sharpener looks very clever and easy to use, so I was surprised when I actually used it to find out it pretty much works in just the same way as it looks. It fits comfortably into the left, or the right hand and the design means that fingers and knuckles are kept away from the blade of the knife at all times, making it very safe.
Users move the Accusharpe backwards and forwards over the blades edge. It only really takes about 20 seconds to complete the job for an average knife, which is very quick. It'll work on pretty much any knife or blade, whether they have a flat edge or a serrated one. It will also work on things like cleavers and axes.
The sharpener itself is made of diamond-honed tungsten carbide. This means that it does not rust and will clean off very easily as well. The blades of the sharpener also lasts a long time (at least according to Accusharpe), with there being about 5 - 10 years between blade changes. Even at that time people can buy replaceable blades, making it very good value for money. All in all it offers an easier and more convenient alternative to the cutting stone, with a much lower chance of ending up with sliced fingers.
